Description
The rat is located in New York’s Soho neighbourhood. This time Banksy had a permit from the city to create on the side of a building. The “let them eat crack” saying is a commentary on the coldness of Wall Street towards a city that is increasingly poor.
The rat himself seems to have written the words. One hand is a bloody red, matching the color of the paint dripping from the wall.
In this piece Banksy is literally calling Wall Street a giant rat. The necktie. The I.D. badge. The open umbrella. The suitcase. These are all symbols of big business.
The briefcase appears to be busting at the seams with money. Some of it has even have fallen out. Let Them Eat Cake captures the corruption, greed, and amoral attitude of Wall Street in it’s mindless pursuit of money and power.
